Karsten Dahmen

Karsten Dahmen (* 1969 ) is a German classical archaeologist and numismatist .

Life

Karsten Dahmen studied classical archeology, ancient history as well as prehistory and early history . In 1999 he completed his doctorate at the University of Münster with a dissertation on the subject of investigations into the form and function of small-format portraits from the Roman Empire . In 2004, as a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, he carried out research on the iconography of Alexander the Great on Hellenistic and Imperial coins. In 2005 he became a museum assistant at the Münzkabinett Berlin in the Bode-Museum , where he was involved both in setting up the permanent exhibition and in developing the Internet catalog for the Münzkabinett . Between 2007 and 2009 Dahmen worked on the coin holdings from the Merovingian period in the Berlin Coin Cabinet. In 2010 he succeeded medal specialist Wolfgang Steguweit as a research associate at the Münzkabinett in Berlin. There he is mainly responsible for the late antique and Byzantine , but also for the non-German coins and medals of the modern era. In addition, Dahmen is responsible for the further development and editorial control of the Internet catalog.

Dahmen is a specialist in research into ancient coins, especially Hellenistic and late antique coins.
