Potato stone
The potato stone is a memorial stone on the top of Hasenknüll , a small hill near Herberhausen east of Göttingen .
It is owned by the Evangelical Lutheran parish in Herberhausen. The three-sided obelisk made of shell limestone was created in 1852 by the parish of Herberhausen as a thank you for an abundant potato harvest, which followed numerous bad harvests . After being damaged by a lightning strike on June 7, 1937, it was repaired in the same year and renewed in 1964. Today's execution in weatherproof shell limestone took place in 1966. An inscription is carved into the base of the potato stone on three sides.
“We want to build an altar that will be called Ebenezer
You can see the words on it. God guides his children well
So here the slogan takes place: well to whom God has as a guide "
The origin and history of the potato stone are shown on a stone slab placed next to it.
Because of its central European dry grassland and steppe flora , the potato stone is designated as a two-dimensional natural monument . In the west-north-west direction , the potato stone offers a view over the Lutter valley to the area of the Leinetal north of Göttingen .
