Karuri is a city in Kiambu County . The city is located just under 20 kilometers south of Nairobi . Also nearby are the cities of Kikuyu , Limuru and Kiambu . It covers an area of ​​46 km² and a population of 194,342 (2019 census)

geography

The city is located in a hinterland that has fertile soils. The city enjoys good climatic conditions like most areas in the central region of Kenya. history

Karuri, was set up in the pre-colonial period as a meeting center where the top chiefs of the Kikuyu met for deliberations. The city derives its name from the chief Karuri Wa Gakure, who would travel from Tuthu on the slopes of the Aberdare Range to meet his colleagues

Proximity to the city of Nairobi and adequate transportation have drawn many people who work in Nairobi and other neighboring cities to Karuri in order to find cheaper accommodation. It has the status of a dormitory city of Nairobi.
