The Prince Casimir Church (Polish Kościół św. Kazimierza Królewicza ) or Reform Franciscan Church (Polish Kościół Reformatów ) in Kraków is a Catholic church at ul. Reformacka 4, in the northern part of Kraków's Old Town . It was located directly on the city wall before it was removed.
history
The Order of the Friars Minor (Reform Franciscans) came to Krakow in 1622 and initially settled in the Piasek district in front of the city wall. Construction of the church in the early baroque style began in 1625 and the church was consecrated in 1640. The founder was Zuzanna Amendówna , who bequeathed her entire fortune to the order in her will in 1644. However, the church burned down during the Swedish Flood in the middle of the 17th century. As early as 1658 the Reform Franciscans were given building land within the city walls by Stanisław Warszycki and they built the current church from 1666 to 1672 in the mature Baroque style. In 1672 the crypt was also laid out in the church's crypt, in which more than a thousand deceased, both monks and secular persons, have been buried. Some of the coffins are glazed.
