The Güssing fort is located on a hill in the local area of Güssing below the castle . The single-storey historic building with a gable roof and a porch in the northern part is not to be confused with the also owned by the family Batthyány situated castle Batthyány in the same place.
history
King Ludwig II then transferred Güssing Castle to the Hungarian nobleman Franz Batthyány and his nephew Christoph as a reward for defeating a Turkish army at Jaice . The family had the castle expanded into a spacious fortress in the 16th and 17th centuries because of the impending danger from the east . Part of the overall facility was the 17th century castle with a 19th century facade. It used to be the seat of the Güssing district administration and is now used for residential and business purposes.
