The Kastenhaus Wemding is located in Wemding , a town in the Swabian district of Donau-Ries in Bavaria . The building at Schloßhof 1 is a protected architectural monument .

The box house was built in the 11th century by the nobles von Wemding. Its current appearance dates back to the end of the 16th century. The gable with dovetail crenellations and the arched frieze are particularly noteworthy . The box house was used to store the grain. In 1806 the three-storey building was converted into a girls' school and used as such until 1970. Six years later the house was extensively renovated. Today the local history museum and the guest house of the city of Wemding are housed in the former box house.
