The Castilian chicken is a medium-sized black country chicken . The Latin writer Inuius Moderatio Columella mentioned them as early as the 1st century AD in his work “De re rustica”. The Moors also dealt with this breed around 800 years ago. In Germany, the breed was founded in 1955 by a Dr. Zielke introduced.

Castilians are very lively. You have a very elegant figure. They carry their backs sloping slightly, the tail is carried at an angle. Despite their temperament, they can be tamed quickly if they are behaved appropriately. They develop very quickly, which has a positive effect on the laying performance.

Castilians are the starting animals for the breeding of the domestic chicken breeds Minorka , Spaniards and Andalusians .

The breed also exists as a dwarf form, the dwarf Castilian , which is not often bred.
