Kasumbalesa , also Kasile , is a small place that is divided by the state border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia .

Kasumbalesa is about 96 kilometers from Lubumbashi and has a population of about 4,000.

Kasumbalesa thus forms two places, two border posts, which are mainly mentioned as the end of the rail network of the Zambia Railways and the Société Nationale des Chemins de fer du Congo .

The road from Lubumbashi to Kitwe also runs through the village.

history

On July 2, 1987, a serious railway accident occurred at a level crossing near Kasumbalesa : A truck hit a passenger train in the flank and overturned the first car , which in turn derailed two other cars . 128 people died.
