Disasters at sea

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Disasters at Sea was a series of notebooks published by the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People.

Data

Between 1951 and 1981 a total of 15 issues were published without numbering.

The booklets were not sold through the magazine trade and are deliberately differentiated from the " junk booklets ". The series was advertised by the publisher (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger) as follows: “ In our series of publications, disasters at sea, recognized writers describe outstanding rescue deeds based on original reports in an exciting and factual manner. “All booklets were checked in advance by the youth publications committees and were recommended for school use.

The Landser author and former Nazi writer Fritz-Otto Busch was also one of the "recognized writers" . He also wrote for the novel series SOS - Fate of German Ships and anchor booklets. Seafaring around the world - from which this series deliberately distinguished itself. Hans Berber-Credner, on the other hand, only appeared outside of this series as the author of a memorandum on the history and work of the DGzRS.

Some of the booklets were illustrated with drawings, but often also with photos. Chapter headings divide the small booklets, similar to what is usual for books.

There are new editions in 1963, 1975 and approx. 1980 with changed covers and slightly revised texts.
