Kate Sedley

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kate Sedley , actually Brenda Margaret Lilian Honeyman Clarke (* 1926 in Bristol ), is an English writer.

Life

Clarke graduated from The Red Maid's School in Westbury-on-Trym . After her studies she came back there and worked there as a teacher for many years. Enthusiastic about the history of her country, she began to write stories about it at an early age. She published her first publications under her own name (Brenda Clarke); later she chose the pseudonyms Brenda Honeymoon and Kate Sedley - in order to clearly separate from her job .

Even after her retirement, she continued to write and is now only known to her audience by her pseudonym. She currently (2011) resides in her hometown of Bristol with her husband.

reception

Sedley's greatest success was with the series about its protagonist Roger the Chapman . According to her own statements, she chose this name according to its meaning and by no means after the rock singer of the same name. In the German translations, this name was somewhat incorrectly shortened to Roger Chapman .

Roger Chapman was actually destined for a life in the monastery. Shortly before taking his religious vows , he fled and has lived as a peddler ever since. During his trade trips he repeatedly comes across crimes which he helps solve.
