Katharina Cortolezis-Schlager

Katharina Cortolezis-Schlager (born May 17, 1960 in Graz ; † July 20, 2015 in Vienna ) was an Austrian management consultant and politician ( ÖVP ). From 2005 to 2008 she was a city councilor in Vienna. After the National Council elections in 2008, she entered the Austrian National Council .

School and professional career

Katharina Cortolezis-Schlager attended the Academic Gymnasium in Graz between 1970 and 1978 and then studied commercial science at the Vienna University of Economics and Business . In 1984 Cortolezis-Schlager completed her studies with a master's degree. During her studies, between 1979 and 1981, she was Austria's first woman as chairwoman of the student body at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and representative of Austrian students for the reform of social and economic studies. Between 1981 and 1984 she also worked as a women's officer in the central committee of the Austrian Students' Union. After completing her studies, Cortolezis-Schlager worked as a management consultant in national and international companies and public institutions from 1983. Since 1987 she has been the managing director and owner of the company "team consult wien".

Cortolezis-Schlager worked between 1996 and 2002 as a lecturer at the Federal Administration Academy and since 2003 has been Deputy Chairwoman of the University Council of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and a member of the Women's Policy Advisory Board for universities.

Political career

Cortolezis-Schlager was elected to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council after the state and municipal council elections in 2005 . She resigned her council mandate on the first day of the meeting after she was elected non-executive councilor of the ÖVP. As a city councilor, she was responsible for the areas of economy, education and science. According to her own statements, her political priorities as a city councilor lay in the areas of education and research, and as a city councilor she aimed for equal opportunities and gender mainstreaming . In addition, she was considered a candidate for the school department after the National Council election in 2006 . After the National Council election in 2008 , Cortolezis-Schlager moved into the National Council on October 28, 2008 and resigned as a city councilor on October 31, 2008. Since 2010 she has been the area spokesperson for science and research for the Austrian People's Party . On February 24, 2012, she was elected district party leader of the ÖVP Leopoldstadt.
