Katharina Schmitt

Katharina Schmitt (* 1979 in Bremen ) is a German playwright and theater director .

Life

Schmitt studied theater directing at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague . She has been working as a director and playwright in Germany and the Czech Republic since 2005. In 2006 she won the Jakob Michael Reinhold Lenz Prize for Drama for her piece Knock Out . Schmitt's piece SAM was shown in 2010 at the Autorentheatertage at the Deutsches Theater Berlin in a facility by Sebastian Hartmann ; after productions in Wiesbaden, Bielefeld and Prague, she staged the play herself in 2012 as part of a residency at the Watermill Center New York. Since 2012 she has been in-house director and member of the artistic management of the Prague Theater Studio Hrdinů.

Her plays are represented by Rowohlt Theaterverlag and have been translated into English, Finnish, Polish and Czech.
