Katharine Sarikakis

Katharine Sarikakis (born December 24, 1970 in Athens ) is a Greek communication scientist. Since 2011 she has been a professor for journalism and communication studies at the University of Vienna . Her research focuses on media governance , media organization and media industries.

Life

Katharine Sarikakis was born in Athens on December 24, 1970. From 1989 to 1992 she worked as a journalist and radio presenter in Athens. In 1991 she graduated from the Journalism School of the private European Educational Organization (EEO). From 1992 to 1995 she studied communication science and politics at the University of Wolverhampton in England. In 1997 she completed her master's degree in communication studies at the Free University of Berlin in Germany. In 2001 she received her PhD in Philosophy from Glasgow Caledonian University in Scotland. Katharine Sarikakis was Senior Lecturer in Communications Policy at the University of Leeds from 2004 to 2011 . Since 2011 she has been professor for journalism and communication studies at the University of Vienna.

Scientific work

Her research largely focuses on the analysis of political processes and the dimensions of national and global media governance. An earlier research area in the field of international communication terminated the investigation of the role of institutions in inter - and supranational represent political processes.

Sarikakis is a founding member and co-editor of the International Journal of Media and Cultural Politics (MCP) with Neil Blain (University of Stirling, UK).
