Sacred Heart Cathedral (Sarajevo)
The Sacred Heart Cathedral ( Bosn. Katedrala Srca Isusova ) is a Roman Catholic episcopal church in the Stari Grad district of the Bosnian capital Sarajevo . The Sacred Heart Cathedral is a neo-Gothic basilica with a semicircular closing choir in the north and a double-towered portal facade with a rose window in the south. The furnishings with white marble sculptures and stained glass windows rich in figures are largely original.
history
The Sacred Heart Cathedral was built from 1884 to 1889 according to plans by the Croatian architect Josip Vancaš for the newly founded Archdiocese of Sarajevo .
A comprehensive restoration of the cathedral, made possible by the efforts of the Aachen pastor Heribert August , was completed in 2013.
organ
The organ of Sarajevo Cathedral was built in 1885 by the Croatian organ builder Heferer and installed in the church in 1889. After it was restored in 1932 and 1989, it suffered damage from the war (1992–95), which was repaired in a comprehensive restoration from 2014 to 2017. In addition, the organ has been technically expanded and has the following disposition :
