St. Joseph Cathedral

The Metropolitan Cathedral of St. Joseph ( Swahili Kanisa la Mtakatifu Joseph , English Saint Joseph's Metropolitan Cathedral ) is the episcopal church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Dar es Salaam in Dar es Salaam , the largest city in Tanzania .

It was built in the neo-Gothic style near the harbor by members of the Benedictine Congregation of St. Ottilien during the German colonial period from 1897 to 1902 and consecrated in 1905 .

Masses are held in Swahili and English, the diocesan bishop is Polycarp Pengo .
