Katherine R. Whitmore
Katherine R. Whitmore (* 1897 in Kansas ; † 1982 ) was an American Romance philologist and Hispanist .
life and work
Katherine Prue Reding studied Spanish at the University of Kansas and received her PhD from the University of California at Berkeley . She taught in Richmond (Virginia) and from 1930 at Smith College in Northampton (Massachusetts) . There she married her colleague Brewer Whitmore.
Her relationship with Pedro Salinas , whom she met in the summer of 1932 in Madrid, became famous in the academic year 1934–1935 there, whose volumes of poetry La voz a ti debida (1934), Razón de amor (1936) and Largo lamento (1939) came up they relate and whose love letters addressed to them were published in 2002.
