Kathleen Best

Kathleen Best - married Thompson (b. 1933) is an English table tennis player with an active career in the 1950s. She won two silver and three bronze medals at world championships.

Career

In 1951, Kathleen Best played her first international match, against Germany. Then she gave up her job to concentrate fully on table tennis.

From 1952 to 1959, Kathleen Best was nominated four times for world championships . She reached the quarter-finals in doubles in 1952 , and won bronze in the team competition. In 1953 she reached the semi-finals with the Austrian Ermelinde Wertl and the final with the English team. At the side of Ann Haydon , she won silver in doubles in 1954 , the team took bronze. In 1960 she took part in the European Championship , where she was third in doubles with D.Collins and second with the team.

In 1960 she won the International German Championships in doubles with Diane Rowe .

In 1953 she was ninth in the world rankings .

Private

On December 31, 1952, Kathleen Best married the English table tennis player Alan Thompson . In 1955 she interrupted her career because she had a son.
