Kathleen Gertrud Ferrier (born March 8, 1957 in Paramaribo , Suriname ) is a Dutch politician of the Christian Democratic Appèl (CDA) and the daughter of the governor and first president of Suriname, Johan Henri Eliza Ferrier .

Life

Kathleen Ferrier, the younger half-sister of the writer Cynthia McLeod , went to school first in Paramaribo and later in The Hague . Then she studied literature and development aid at the Reich University in Leiden . From 1981 to 1984 she flew as a stewardess for the Dutch airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines . From 1984 to 1991 she worked as a development worker in Chile and then until 1994 in São Paulo , Brazil .

After returning to the Netherlands, she turned to politics and dealt with refugee and emigrant problems of immigrants mainly from Latin America . Due to her commitment and dedication, she is now active in many organizations in a responsible position, such as

  • Spokeswoman for the Habitat Platform Suriname
  • Spokeswoman for the jury Projectvoorstellen van Migranten
  • Member of the MDO Council of the Protestant Church in the Netherlands
  • Vice-Chair of the CDA
  • Member of the ZMV (Zwarte Migranten- en Vluchtelingenvrouwen)

On 23 May 2002 Ferrier MP for the Christian Democratic Appeal in which it was the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament. Since March 2003, Ferrier is also deputy chairman of the Committee Kamercommissie of Social and Labor Affairs of the Parliament.

She is married to Pastor Tjeerd de Boer and has two children.
