Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul (Erlangen-Bruck)
The Catholic Church of St. Peter and Paul in the Erlangen district of Bruck is the place of worship for the Roman Catholic parish of St. Peter and Paul.
The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Peter and Paul is also located in the same district .
History and description
After the Napoleonic Wars , the Kingdom of Bavaria was reorganized politically and religiously in the early 19th century . As in the other Protestant areas, the Catholic population also grew in Central Franconia . The Catholic parish church in Bruck, the construction of which was necessary at the beginning of the 20th century, was the first daughter of the Herz-Jesu parish in Erlangen . It was designed by the Nuremberg government architect Hermann Selzer and when it was consecrated on July 12, 1908, it was placed under the same patrons as the old village church.
The style is baroque and is reminiscent of a village church in the Franconian countryside. Instead of its own tower, a modest roof turret crowns the church. A special feature is the organ integrated into the altarpiece , which is played from a console on the gallery. The Berlin church painter Paul Plontke created the altarpieces in 1948, depicting the risen Christ, framed by the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul. The gallery shows the flight of the Holy Family , admittedly not from Bethlehem to Egypt, but within Bruck from the Protestant to the Catholic Church. It was probably painted by Prof. Karl Selzer, whose altarpieces, which were part of the original furnishings of the church, can be seen today in the rooms of the St. Marien branch church.
