history

Gloggnitz was mentioned in a document around 1094 as a base for the Formbach monastery . Gloggnitz has been a parish since the 12th century. Until 1962 the former monastery church of the Benedictine monastery Gloggnitz ( Schloss Gloggnitz ) was the parish church. In 1962 the new church was completed and made a parish church.

Through the mediation of Cardinal Friedrich Gustav Piffl (1864–1932), who held summer retreat at Kranichberg Castle , Pastor Bucher commissioned the architect Clemens Holzmeister (1927) to plan a new church. From Holzmeister's planning of a staggered hall church with a soaring choir tower, only the tower could be built from 1933 to 1934 and was consecrated in 1934 as the Cardinal Friedrich Gustav Piffl Memorial Church. The financial means were lacking for the completion. With a rescheduling by the architect Clemens Holzmeister, the building project was redimensioned and was completed between 1960 and 1962. The chancel was moved to the east and the former chancel on the ground floor of the tower became the entrance hall.

architecture

The Christ the King's Church is located on a hill in the Wochensländer Park in the center of Gloggnitz. The nave is designed as a concrete basilica and makes a massive monumental impression. Above the high altar is a mosaic of Christ the King enthroned by Richard Kurt Fischer . Giselbert Hoke designed a chapel in the tower .

Furnishing

The tabernacle was made by Karl Hagenauer based on designs by Clemens Holzmeister.

The organ was built by Josef Mertin (1971).
