The Catholic University of Salta ( Spanish : Universidad Católica de Salta ), UCASAL for short, is a Catholic university with headquarters in Salta in the Argentine province of Salta .

The college was founded by Roberto José Tavella SDB, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Salta from 1934 to 1963, and the entrepreneur Robustiano Patron Costas. Arturo Frondizi was the founding president of a private university in 1958. The Catholic University of Salta was established by decree of the Archbishop on March 19, 1963. State recognition took place on September 2, 1965. University operations began in 1967; first university rector was Edward Justen SJ.
