Argentina has over 20 public universities and almost as many private universities. The main university is the University of Buenos Aires (founded in 1821). Other important universities are the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina (founded 1958), the National Technical University (founded 1959), the National University of Córdoba (founded 1613), as well as the universities in Bahia Blanca (founded 1956), La Plata (founded 1905) , Mendoza (founded 1939), San Miguel de Tucumán (founded 1914) and Rosario (founded 1968).

Argentina has a three-tier system of studies with a first degree after four years or a degree after five years in law, medicine or engineering. Building on the first degree, a two-year course with the academic degree Especialista or Maestería is possible. The third stage is the doctorate with an academic doctoral degree.

Shift work is usual at Argentine universities, i.e. In other words, there is a “turno mañana” (early shift), a “turno tarde” (late shift) and the “turno noche” (night shift); the earliest courses start at 8 a.m., the latest at 9 p.m. (until 11 p.m.).
