Catholic Association of Working People

The Catholic Association of Working People (KVW) was founded in 1948 as a German-speaking organization in South Tyrol based on the model of the ACLI by the Roman Catholic Church ; the association advocates fair living conditions for people, social peace and the preservation of creation . It has 36,000 members (as of 2017).

A first focus of the KVW was in the development of the patronage KVW-ACLI (assistance for provision, welfare and social rights), in social issues (jobs, housing, efforts for a peaceful coexistence of the ethnic groups in South Tyrol), in further education (professional, personal , social, orientation to Christian values) as well as in the development of offices and movements.

A local group was established in almost every place in South Tyrol. Voluntary social workers were sought and trained. Interest groups have been established. Office space was rented and opened in all districts in order to provide professional help to the people and volunteers. The task was also to look after the South Tyroleans who emigrated during the option .

The KVW was also involved in the establishment of the Autonomous South Tyrolean Trade Union Federation , the South Tyrol Consumer Center , the AFI Employment Promotion Institute , the Catholic Forum and the social ring (KVW, Caritas, Lega-Coop-Bund and umbrella organization of social associations).

Personalities from the founding period included Joseph Gargitter , Heinrich Forer , Josef Kögl, Josef Untergasser, Pius Holzknecht, Manfred Adler, Johann Prenn, August Ausser, Josef Göller, David Kofler , Alfons Benedikter and Waltraud Gebert .
