Kathrin Baumstark

Kathrin Baumstark (* 1983 in Filderstadt ) is a German art historian and religious scholar and has been the artistic director of the Bucerius Kunst Forum since 2019 .

Life

Kathrin Baumstark studied art history, religious studies and modern German literature at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . After completing her master's thesis on “The changed concept of work in the visual arts based on the model of Studio Olafur Eliasson”, she became a research assistant and lecturer at the LMU's inter-faculty study program in 2011. In 2015 she received her doctorate in the subjects of religious studies and art history with the title “Death and the Maiden. Eroticism, sexuality and dying in the German-speaking area between the late Middle Ages and early modern times ”. She has been the curator of the Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg since 2016 , and in June 2019 Kathrin Baumstark took over the artistic direction of the exhibition house. At the Bucerius Kunst Forum she curated the exhibitions “Max Pechstein. Modern artists ”,“ Karl Schmidt-Rottluff. Expressive, magical, strange ”and“ World in transition. Art of the 20s ”as well as the opening exhibition of the newly opened house on Alten Wall“ Here We Are Today. The Image of the World in Photo & Video Art ”.
