Kati Rickenbach (* 1980 in Basel ) is a Swiss comic artist and illustrator and co-editor of the comic magazine Strapazin .

biography

In 2001 Rickenbach began studying illustration at the University of Art and Design in Lucerne, and in 2002 the first self-published comics were published. An exchange with the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences followed in 2004, and since 2005 she has lived as a freelance illustrator and comic artist.

She became known to a wider audience in 2006 through her autobiographical comic series “Zyri” in the Züritipp , representing Mike van Audenhove . It is also noticed in Germany: “Rickenbach has kidnapped you into a charming world”.

In 2007 the first book, Filmriss. It tells of a young woman who wakes up hungover and no longer remembers what happened the night before. Now she is considered a “young star in the German-speaking comic business”, her “funny comics impress with their charm”. Also in 2007, the Fumetto comic festival dedicated her first solo exhibition.

Two stays in Hamburg in 2004 and 2009 formed the basis of her second book, “Jetzt geht later” (2011), which is again characterized by autobiography. It tells of life as an exchange student, complicated male acquaintances, bread jobs and the fight for artistic freedom as a comic artist. Rickenbach lives in Zurich .

Rickenbach draws comics and illustrations e.g. B. for Swiss family , Tages-Anzeiger or the Lenzburg city library, also in comic magazines such. B. Strapazin . She gives lectures and comics workshops in schools, she also performs at live drawing events.

Her works have been exhibited a. a. in Lausanne, Oslo, Ravenna, Erlangen, Berlin, Zurich and New Delhi.

style

Rickenbach cultivates a direct narrative style and a "lively line that seems quick and fleeting, but in truth is amazingly secure and mature." She “doesn't tell us anything unnecessary in any window. In clear lines and fast-paced image sections, she designs everyday moments ”. “It is the supposed banalities of everyday life that Rickenbach carefully filters out and congenially enriches with her pointed humor. Her sweeping stroke emphasizes the ease with which she tells stories ”.
