Fumetto

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fumetto (Italian for. Comics and speech bubble , literally "Räuchlein") is an annually in Lucerne take-find comics festival . The Fumetto has developed from a small, regional event into one of the most important international comic festivals in Europe . Today it has around 50,000 visitors.

history

Founded in 1992, Fumetto was aimed at young people and art students. A competition has been held since the first edition. The content orientation of concentrating on artistically demanding comics and showing other art movements such as drawing, illustration, visual arts, graphics, performance and animation is what distinguishes Fumetto.

As early as 1995, major international comic artists were exhibited at the festival and the number of exhibited works increased annually. Due to the constant growth, the festival was realigned and held decentrally throughout the old town of Lucerne.

Since 1999 Fumetto has been operating under the name Fumetto - Internationales Comic-Festival Luzern . Today the festival consists of around 20 main exhibitions as well as 50 satellite and shop window exhibitions and lasts nine days. The most important comic artists in the world, well-known draftsmen, young talents and the current trends in the art forms of drawing and comics are shown.

As an internationally renowned festival, Fumetto also offers a platform for Swiss artists. Since 2007, the festival has been providing sustainable funding and annually enables a young, promising and still largely unknown artist to have their first publication including a solo exhibition.

Concept / reception

Mediation is one of Fumetto's main concerns. The exhibitions are designed to present art in an exciting way that is up to date. This includes mediating instruments for every age group and different needs: handouts, guided tours, podcasts, lectures by the artists in their exhibitions and programs for children / young people and school classes, such as specially guided festival visits, drawing courses and teaching material for school classes. Since 2006, parents have been able to leave their children in the exhibition's own after-school care center, where handicrafts, painting and T-shirts are printed.

Fumetto has positioned itself as a festival of art and artists and has no commercial goals.

Today it is one of the leading comic festivals in Europe and with over 50,000 visitors is one of the biggest events in the festival city of Lucerne.
