Katja Isabel Leikert (* 3. March 1975 in Neustadt on the Wine Route as Katja Isabel Rüb ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and, since 2013 Member of the German Bundestag .

Career

Katja Leikert was born in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse and grew up in Taunus, Rheinhessen and Hanau . She has been studying political science since 1995 and, after several scholarships, completed her doctorate in 2006 on the subject of US security policy towards Iran and North Korea .

Political career

Leikert was chairwoman of the Women’s Union Main-Kinzig and is still chairwoman of the CDU Main-Kinzig, co-opted member of the board of the CDU Bruchköbel and member of the Bruchköbel commission for families, children, youth and senior citizens.

In 2012 Leikert joined the CDU and immediately afterwards was nominated as a Bundestag candidate for the CDU Main-Kinzig, after having previously completed an internship with Dr. Peter Tauber had graduated.

In the Bundestag election 2013 she won the direct mandate in the Bundestag constituency of Hanau with 44.3 percent and in the Bundestag election 2017 with 35.3 percent of the first votes . In the 18th German Bundestag she was a member of the Committee on Health as well as secretary and deputy member of the Committee on Family, Seniors, Women and Youth and the Foreign Affairs Committee . She defended her mandate in the 2017 federal election . Since January 29, 2018, she has been Deputy Chairwoman of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group with responsibility for European policy, European coordination, parliamentary cooperation in Europe, the Brussels Liaison Office, the EPP group and human rights.

Leikert is a member of the non-partisan European Union Germany , which advocates a federal Europe and the European unification process.
