Katre Ligi

Katre Ligi (real name Katre Runnel , born August 18, 1953 in Tartu ) is an Estonian poet .

Life

Katre Ligi graduated from high school in Tartu in 1971 and then studied Estonian philology at the University of Tartu . After graduating in 1976, she worked in a public library for a few months. She then worked as a freelance editor and proofreader.

Katre Ligi is married to the writer Hando Runnel . Her father was the historian Herbert Ligi , the Estonian politician Jürgen Ligi is her brother. She is also (through her mother) a granddaughter of the well-known Estonian archaeologist Harri Moora and his wife Aliise.

Literary work

Katre Ligi already wrote poetry as a schoolgirl and published in school almanacs. She submitted her first volume of poetry in 1978. It was greeted warmly by the critics as a “lyrical diary”. This was followed, sparingly, by further volumes of poetry, which are characterized by a personal tone and often deal with children and motherhood. In her later poetry she was attested to maturity and even compared to Betti Alver or Juhan Viiding .
