Looming (in English "Creation") is the oldest and most important literary magazine in Estonia .

Literary magazine

Looming was founded in 1923 by the Estonian writer and writer Friedebert Tuglas . Its purpose was to publish and popularize contemporary Estonian literature . At Looming all known Estonian authors wrote with practical.

During the Soviet occupation of Estonia, Looming was the main organ of the "Writers 'Association of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic " (from 1943 to 1958 " Soviet Writers' Association of Estonia ").

Today the publication of Looming is financially supported by the Estonian Ministry of Culture, the state foundation Eesti Kultuurkapital and the Estonian Writers' Association. The latter appoints the editor-in-chief of the magazine, who is responsible for the content of Looming .

Looming appears twelve times a year. The editorial office is based in Tallinn .

Trivia

The Estonian writer Andrus Kivirähk published the story Saunatag (Saunapäev) in the 1000th issue of the magazine (12/2012, pp. 1707–1715) , in which he lets almost all editors-in-chief take a bath in the sauna together. The story takes place around 1957, because Kärner (died 1958) is still alive and Udo Uibo (born 1956) appears as a young boy, and it is also reported that Andres Langemets (born 1948) is nine. In 1957, Stalin was already dead, but one was still deep in the Soviet economy, which is why it was u. a. at times there was no warm water ...
