Janika Kronberg

Janika Kronberg (born November 24, 1963 in Võru ) is an Estonian literary scholar , critic and essayist.

Life

Kronberg graduated from high school in Võru in 1981 and studied Estonian philology at the University of Tartu from 1982 to 1989 . From 1989 to 1996 he was director of the newly founded Karl Ristikivi Museum in Tartu . In this capacity, he has endeavored to develop it into a center for research into Estonian exile literature. The museum is now closed (2007), but the Karl Ristikivi Society, which has existed since 2001, now performs the tasks originally intended for the museum.

Kronberg has been a member of the Estonian Writers' Association since 1996 and was chairman of the association's Tartu department from 1996 to 2005. From 2005 to 2015 he was the director of the Estonian Museum of Literature . Since March 1st, 2016 he has been editor-in-chief of the most important Estonian literary magazine Looming .

Scientific work

In his research, Kronberg concentrates primarily on the literature of Estonian exile. He has published a monograph on the history of the most important publishing house in Estonia , the Estonian Writers' Cooperative ( Eesti Kirjanike Kooperatiiv ), which was active in Lund from 1950 to 1994 . He also published a travel book in which he followed in the footsteps of important Estonian authors. He also wrote numerous detailed studies on Estonian writers and worked as an editor.
