Triin Soomets (born March 2, 1969 in Tallinn , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian poet .

life and work

Triin Soomets graduated from the University of Tartu in 1994 with a degree in Estonian Philology . She wrote poetry during her student days. They first appeared in 1990 in a "cassette" together with other young Estonian authors, all of whom were born between 1969 and 1974. The success was so great that Soomets has been working as a freelance poet for several years. In 1999 she joined the Estonian Writers' Union.

Triin Soomets is currently one of the most famous contemporary Lycian women in Estonia. She often appears together with the four younger Estonian poets Karl Martin Sinijärv , Asko Künnap , Elo Viiding and Jürgen Rooste . Her poems are partly passionate and feminine, partly symbolistic , partly neo-romantic . They are often rhythmic and full of movement. In terms of content, her lyrics leave a lot of room for interpretation. In it echoes of Lorca and Baudelaire are reflected.

Triin Soomets has also emerged as a translator into Estonian , among others for Rainer Maria Rilke and Anne Peer . Triin Soomets writes regularly for the Estonian cultural newspapers Looming and Vikerkaar .
