Johann Schönsperger the Younger (* around 1480 in Augsburg ; † 1543 in Schwabmünchen ) was an accountant , printer and publisher .

Life

Schönsperger did his apprenticeship with his father of the same name, Johann Schönsperger . Like him, he was also a member of the salt makers' guild. He worked as a publisher from 1502. From 1510 he brought out illustrated prints of the edification literature and supplemented these with weather and pharmacopoeia, as well as Erasmus writings. He later limited himself to Reformation pamphlets. In 1523 he opened a second printing company in Zwickau , which however left him in debt. Because of his debts he was arrested in 1525 during the Leipzig fair. He was expelled from Zwickau and then returned to Augsburg, where he only printed a little. After he got into debt in Augsburg, he fled to Schwabmünchen in 1530, where he died in 1543. About 140 prints are still preserved from him.
