Erich Pelzer

Erich Pelzer (born May 16, 1950 in Inden ) is a German historian .

Career

Erich Pelzer studied history, political science and Romance studies at the universities of Paris I (Sorbonne-Panthéon) and Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1980 he completed his studies in Freiburg with a Magister Artium in history. From 1980 to 1982 Pelzer was a fellow of the German Historical Institute in Paris. He then worked as a research assistant in Freiburg im Breisgau at the chair for modern history of Ernst Schulin until 1987 , where he received his doctorate in 1985 with the thesis The Alsatian Adel in Late Feudalism .

After receiving his doctorate, he taught as a university assistant in Freiburg from 1987 to 1993. In 1993 he completed his habilitation there with the work France Mediation in the German Late Enlightenment . From 1994 he received a two-year research grant from the Volkswagen Foundation. From 1996 to 2000, Pelzer was substitute professor at the universities in Potsdam , Friborg and Freiburg im Breisgau , which was followed by a visiting professorship at the University of Basel . Since 2001 he has been professor of modern history at the University of Mannheim . Pelzer is a founding member of the France Center in Freiburg and the Historical Institute in Mannheim, which he was first director from 2004 to 2006.

His main research interests are the French Revolution and the age of Napoleon Bonaparte . Pelzer is editor of the Consulate and Empire series. Studies and Sources on the Napoleonic Age .
