Joseph Yurt

Joseph Jurt (born March 10, 1940 in Willisau Land ) is a Swiss Romanist . He is professor emeritus for French literary studies at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life

Jurt studied in Friborg and at the Sorbonne in Paris. In 1966 he received his doctorate at the University of Friborg with the dissertation Les attitudes politiques de Georges Bernanos . He worked as a research assistant at the University of Regensburg , where he is in the subject Romance Philology (Literature) habilitation .

From 1981 until his retirement in 2005 he was a professor at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. Here he supervised 42 dissertations and several habilitation theses. From 1987 to 1998 he received various invitations as directeur de recherches associé at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (chair P. Bourdieu) in Paris. He was also invited as a guest lecturer at the Sorbonne Nouvelle and at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In 1987 he was co-founder and for seven years chairman of the board of the France Center at the University of Freiburg. From 1997 to 2000 he was a member of the Franco-German Cultural Council, from 2000 to 2007 a member of the Swiss Science and Technology Council and from 2005 to 2007 its Vice-President. From 2005 to 2014 he was teaching at the Freiburg France Center. From 2006 to 2009 he taught as a guest lecturer at the Pedagogical University of Central Switzerland in Lucerne. 2009–2010 teaching position at the University of Basel; from 2010 to 2013 teaching position in the context of public lectures at the University of St. Gallen.
