Katsudon

Katsudon ( Japanese カ ツ 丼 ) is a Japanese dish . The name is made up of Tonkatsu ( breaded pork schnitzel ) and Donburi (ceramic bowl). It's a bowl of rice with a half-cooked egg and a crispy schnitzel on top .

It is one of the most popular donburi -dishes next Tendon (with tempura ), gyudon (with beef ) and oyakodon (with egg and chicken ).

It has become a ritual for Japanese schoolchildren and students to eat katsudon before an important exam because "katsu" is a homophone of the verb 勝 つ katsu, which means "to win".
