Toshio Sugiura ( Japanese 杉 浦 敏朗 , Sugiura Toshio ; born August 9, 1942 in Gamagōri , Aichi Prefecture ; † January 1, 2018 in Tokyo ), known by his ring name Katsuhikari Toshio ( 和 晃 敏 郎 ), was a Japanese sumo wrestler . It made its professional debut in November 1958, and reached the top level in September 1969 . His highest rank was maegashira 1. He withdrew from active competition in March 1973 and remained in the Japanese Sumo Association as an elder under the name Wakafuji. He reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 and left the sumo association in August 2007.

Toshio died on January 1, 2018 at the age of 75 of biliary tract cancer .
