Guillaume Sudre OP (also Guilaume La Sudrie or Guillaume de La Sudré ; * in Laguenne ; † September 28, 1373 in Avignon ) was a French bishop and cardinal .

Life

He entered the Dominican order in the convent of Brive in the religious province of Toulouse and earned a master's degree in theology. In 1348 he became provincial of the Dominicans in Toulouse. 1350 he was by Pope Clement VI. called to Avignon to lead the schools of the Apostolic Palace. Pope Innocent VI appointed him bishop of Marseilles with a bull dated August 27, 1361 .

His first act as bishop was the benediction of the three abbesses Saint-Sauveur, Saint-Pons and Sion on May 22, 1362. On June 4, 1365 he was present at the coronation of Emperor Charles IV in Arles . In October 1365 he received Pope Urban V in Marseille when he was visiting the Abbey of St-Victor .

Guillaume Sudre was created on September 18, 1366 as the first by Pope Urban V to cardinal priest of Santi Giovanni e Paolo . He then left Marseille and went to Avignon. In 1367 he accompanied the Pope to Italy and was elevated to Cardinal Bishop of Ostia e Velletri . In 1369 he accepted the creed of John V , the emperor of Byzantium .

He died on September 28, 1373 in Avignon and was buried in the Dominican church.
