history
The original name of the place Agenna is mentioned for the first time around 922 AD and was of Celtic origin. Then the name was latinized to Aquina and changed to Laguenne via Aquina, Agena, Aguena and Laguenna. The initial L is explained by the amalgamation of the article la with the place name, so L'Aguenna finally became Laguenna. The place was one of the 18 fortified cities of the Bas-Limousin .
