Katsusada Hirose

Katsusada Hirose ( Japanese 広 瀬 勝 貞 , Hirose Katsusada ; born June 25, 1942 in Hita , Ōita Prefecture ) is a Japanese politician and has been a non-party governor of Ōita since 2003.

Hirose became a civil servant at MITI after graduating from the Tokyo University Faculty of Law in 1966 . In 1991 he became secretary to Prime Minister Kiichi Miyazawa , in 1996 head of the ministerial secretariat, most recently he was permanent state secretary ( jimujikan ) at MITI from 1999 , and from 2001 in the successor METI ministry . In 2002 his civil service career ended.

In 2003, Governor Morihiko Hiramatsu retired in Ōita Prefecture after six terms. In the April 2003 election, Hirose ran with the support of the LDP , Kōmeitō and the New Conservative Party and was able to beat the later DPJ MPs Shūji Kira and the communist Kōzō Abe with a high turnout with almost 49% of the votes. In 2007 and 2011 he was re-elected against only one Communist candidate. In the 2015 election , the DPJ supported former national MP and mayor of the city Banita Ban Kugimiya as a challenger, but Hirose prevailed with 62.2% of the vote against Kugimiya (32.4%) and three other candidates for a fourth term.

Hirose's ancestor Tansō was a Confucian scholar of the Edo period, his father Masao was the mayor of Hita, LDP deputy and post office minister, his brother Michisada was president of TV Asahi and the national association of private broadcasters, another brother, Sadao, president of the Fujibō textile company . His wife is a granddaughter of MP Heishirō Hayashi and sister of MP and ex-Defense Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi .
