Katsuyuki Itakura

Katsuyuki Itakura ( Japanese 板倉 克 行 , Itakura Katsuyuki ; * 1943 in China ) is a Japanese jazz pianist .

Itakura worked as a professional musician since 1962. After turning to free jazz , he performed in the Gaya Club in Tokyo with Tetsu Saitō and Kazutoki Umezu ; after a solo album in 1982 he presented the album Honey Samba in 1984 , with Masao Fujikawa (flute), Osamu Honjyoh or Shunsuke Mizuno (bass) and Kyousei Maeno (drums). With the sextet Bakumouso he explored the music of Erik Satie . From the 1990s he performed in a duo with saxophonist Keshavan Maslak in Japan and the United States , to be heard on the albums Live & Around: Play Satie II (1993) Excuse Me, Mr. Satie ( Leo Records , 1994) and in April 2001 in Japan and Tokyo Is Now , expanded to a trio with Sabu Toyozumi . In 2005, a trio with Blaise Siwula and Ryusaku Ikezawa made the live recording of Big Hearts . In the 2000s he also played with Yutaka Kaido, Masao Tajima, Ryousuke Hino and Takayuki Kato . In the field of jazz he was involved in ten recording sessions from 1993 to 2005, according to Tom Lord .
