Catherine Katy Ann Manning (born October 14, 1946 in Guildford , Surrey ) is a British actress .

life and career

Katy Manning made her first television appearances on Task Force Police , Softly Softly , Man At The Top and Room At The Top . From 1971 to 1973 she played Jo Grant in the British television series Doctor Who . This made her the companion who had been in the series for the longest. In addition to her appearances in film and television, Manning can also be seen in the theater. She toured Great Britain with the play Death By Fatal Murder . Manning also starred Sylvia in the play Nobody's Business at the King's Head Theater in London .

Manning remained closely connected with Doctor Who years after she left. So she played the role of Jo Grant again in the television series The Sarah Jane Adventures and spoke it in the audio books of Big Finish . She also got her own series of radio plays with Iris Wildthyme , an offshoot of Doctor Who .

Private life

During her time with Doctor Who , she dated actor Stewart Bevan . He played Professor Cliff Jones in the Doctor Who episode The Green Death . The two also played a couple in the series. However, the two soon separated. They stayed friends. Manning had two children with actor Dean Harris . The twins were born in 1979. Manning moved to Manly Beach , Australia , where she raised her children. In Australia she met Barry Crocker , with whom she started a relationship. Manning also has an adopted daughter. Manning moved to London in 2009 because she missed her home.
