Cat pond
Katzenteich is the name of several ponds that existed near Wernigerode in the Harz Mountains or that still exist today in German-speaking countries.
The name usually has nothing to do with the cat (Low German katte ), but is derived from the Low German term gatze for alley . It is therefore a pond that is located on an alley or along which an alley leads.
The following cat ponds existed in the county of Wernigerode :
- Katzenteich near Darlingerode , south of the Venus hill
- Katzenteich bei Wasserleben
- Katzenteich near Veckenstedt in Israelsholz
- Katzenteich in front of the Johannistor in Wernigerode. This pond was filled in in 1905/06 and the street name Am Katzenteich has remained to this day .
