The Kauai Railway is a former railway company in Hawaii ( United States ). Established in 1906, it operated a twenty-five- mile (2½-foot) gauge public railroad from Port Allen to Koloa and Kalaheo on the south coast of Kauai . It had no connection to the other same gauge railway on the island, the Ahukini Terminal and Railway . Except during the First World War , no passengers were carried on the train.

history

The railway was opened in 1907. In 1933 the Kauai Railway Company was dissolved and some parts of the railway were sold to adjacent plantations. The remainder was acquired in 1936 by the Kauai Terminal Company . The shutdown date is unknown, the last trains probably left around 1947. The company continues today as the Kauai Commercial Company .
