Kauan is a Russian ambient band from Chelyabinsk that was formed in 2005. She has now established the Ukrainian Kiev laid.

history

The band was founded in February 2005 by the guitarist, keyboardist and singer Anton Belov and the guitarist Alexander Borovykh. At the age of 16, Belov had finished writing the debut album Lumikuuro before it was released in 2007 on BadMoonMan Records . The same label released Tietäjän Laulu in 2008 and Aava Tuulen Maa in 2009 . After switching to Avantgarde Music , which Kuu .. appeared about in 2011 , the band signed with Blood Music . From 2013 to 2015 Pirut , the compilation Muistumia and Sorni Nai were published. This was followed by the next album on the band's own label Kauanmusic Kaiho in 2017 . In the same year the group took part in ProgPower Europe .

style

According to Thomas Kohlruß from babyblaue-seiten.de , the band initially played a mixture of Doom , Black and Folk Metal , before elements from the areas of ambient and post-rock were incorporated. The band name comes from Finnish and the lyrics are mostly in this language. Christoph Murhammer from stormbringer.at wrote in his review of Kuu .. that it is difficult to classify the group because it spans all styles. Mostly they move in the ambient area, influenced by Neofolk and Neoclassic and enriched with borrowings from Doom Metal and Post-Rock. The band was influenced by Tenhi , whose debut album is called Kauan . On the album one gets by without hard guitars, rather the songs are mostly led by violin and piano , the keynote is mostly melancholy . The songs are kept atmospheric, whereby this atmospheric quality condenses in the course of the album. They are minimalistic, but also quite lengthy and lack classic song structures. Spyros from cvltnation.com said in his review of Pirut that the band initially played a mixture of Doom Metal and Folk, but now on the album the ambience of Doom Metal, the melodic side of Post-Metal , folk passages and influences combine from classical music. The music is minimalist and usually has a dark and melancholy tone. The vocals are sometimes clear, sometimes based on Black Metal. Alex from metalreviews.com reviewed Sorni Nai and noted that the album was about the disaster at Djatlov Pass . From a musical point of view one could speak of mostly scary sounding ambient pieces, whereby a viola , but also gossip percussion and aggressive vocals are used. As usual, the lyrics are in Finnish. Dylan Yadav from immortalreviews.com stated that there is ambient music on Kaiho that is sometimes calming, sometimes mysterious and sometimes dark. Overall, however, the album has a calming and relaxed character.
