Caucasian Brown Swiss
The Caucasian Brown Swiss ( Russian Кавказская бурая , Kawkasskaja buraja ) is a breed of cattle from the Caucasus ( Armenia , Georgia , Azerbaijan ) and Dagestan ( Russia ).
Breeding history
The breed was created by crossing local Caucasus cattle with Brown-Swiss , Kostromaer cattle and Lebedyner cattle . In 1980 the breed numbered 993,000 animals.
Characteristics
- Race not homogeneous: three types ⇒ milk type, dual use type, meat type
- Color brown in various shades
- smaller than Brown-Swiss, more compact
- Chest deep, medium wide
- Croup broad and slightly sloping
- Legs strong
- Satisfactory udder, well developed teats and udder veins
- Skin elastic
- Weight cows 430 - 480 kg, bulls 700 - 800 kg
- Milk yield, milk type 4,160 kg with 3.8% fat, dual use type 3,370 kg with 3.8% fat
