Kauri butanol value
The Kauri-Butanol value ("Kb value") is a measure of the solubility of an organic solvent and is determined according to the ASTM standard ASTM D1133. The higher the solubility, the higher the unitless Kb value. Weak solvents are between 10 and 20, chlorinated solvents can reach values in the hundreds. It is an alternative to the aniline point and is indicated for hydrocarbon solvents.
The dimensionless value is determined by the cloud point of the titration of a Kauri resin - butanol solution against the solvent.
