The Kawaikini is the highest point on the island of Kaua'i in the Hawai'i archipelago . As with all mountains in Hawaii, it is the summit of a volcano , which reaches a height of 1598 m above sea level. With an average of 10,700 mm per year, the northeast slopes of the Kawaikini are among the wettest areas on earth. It rains even more heavily with up to 12,000 mm annually on the northeast slopes of the neighboring Waiʻaleʻale , the second highest mountain of Kauaʻis.
