The Kay Island is a small island off the Borchgrevink Coast of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . It is located about 3 km from Cape Johnson in the northern part of Wood Bay .

James Clark Ross discovered them in 1841 during his Antarctic expedition (1839-1843). It is named after Joseph Henry Kay (1815-1875), participant of the expedition and later director of the Rossbank Observatory for geomagnetic investigations in Hobart, Tasmania .
