Kay Link

Kay Link (born July 17, 1969 in Pforzheim ) is a German opera and theater director , author and literary scholar .

Life

After studying literary studies, art history, history and sign language in Frankfurt am Main and London, Link worked as a game director and assistant director at the Staatstheater Darmstadt and the Dresden State Opera . He was assistant to the directors Claus Guth and Werner Schroeter . First own productions took place in 1998, since 2000 Kay Link has primarily worked as a freelance opera and drama director , he teaches at the Folkwang University in Essen. He also writes plays. He has also published publications on Thomas Bernhard and Heinrich von Kleist .

Prizes and awards

For his directorial work, Kay Link received several nominations for directing awards and competitions, including a. for his conception of Carmen at the Peter Konwitschny Young Talent Prize 2005. His interpretation of Lehár's The Land of Smiles was described as the “most interesting production” in the annual critics' survey of the Saxon newspaper. On Deutschlandradio Kultur , Kay Link and his staging of The Marriage of Figaro alongside David Marton ( Capriccio , Lyon Opera) and Patrick Kinmonth ( Die Gezeichen , Cologne Opera) was honored for an "outstanding production of the year" (annual review of the opera critics 2013). His production of X-Freunde in Cologne was awarded "Production of the Month" by the theater newspaper aKT in January 2014 . Kay Link's works have been nominated three times for the Cologne Theater Prize: The story of the maid Zerlina - will be wiped up later (2004, direction), Woyzeck³ (2007, play and direction), mother tongue Mameloschn (2015, direction and set).
