Kay Patterson AO (born November 21, 1944 in Sydney ) is an Australian politician .

Life

After finishing school, Patterson studied psychology and education at Sydney University and Monash University . After graduating, she worked at various universities in Australia and the United States.

Patterson is a member of the Liberal Party of Australia . From 1987 to 2008, Patterson was a Senator in the Australian Senate . Patterson was named Australian Secretary of Health and Aging in 2001, replacing Michael Wooldridge . She held this ministerial post until 2003. She then served as Minister for Families from 2003 to 2006, replacing Amanda Vanstone . After the end of her professional career as a politician, she became chair of the Brockhoff Foundation .
